At the Thai Travel Clinic, we treat rabies exposure as a clinical priority.
Because rabies is 100% preventable but nearly 100% fatal once symptoms appear, our university-based approach adheres to the strictest WHO and national academic guidelines
.
We don’t just provide “shots”; we provide a comprehensive risk evaluation. Our specialists assess the animal exposure, the severity of the wound, and your past immunization history to determine the exact medical response needed. Whether you require just a rabies vaccine or booster or the specialized administration of Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG)
, our goal is to provide the effective protection while ensuring rational use of vaccine and RIG.
If you have been bitten or scratched by an animal, these are our standard procedure to ensure your safety:
-
Exposure assessmentThe visit begins with a detailed review of the exposure, including the type of contact (bite, scratch, mucosal exposure), the animal species, circumstances of the incident, vaccination status of the animal (if known), and the time since exposure.
-
Medical evaluation and wound managementThe doctor assesses the wound(s), provides appropriate wound care advice, and reviews your medical history, prior rabies vaccination status, and immune status.
-
Post-exposure treatment planBased on risk assessment, the doctor determines whether rabies vaccination alone or vaccination plus rabies immunoglobulin (RIG) is required, and explains the recommended schedule and rationale. Tetanus toxoid and antibiotics prophylaxis will also be considered and recommended if needed.
-
Treatment and follow-up guidanceWhen indicated, rabies vaccine and/or RIG are administered, and you will receive clear instructions regarding follow-up doses, wound care, and when to seek further medical attention.
